Open Rank Senior Lecturer to Professor in Living Systems (Education and Research)

University of Exeter – Faculty of Health and Life Sciences – Living Systems Institute (LSI)

The Living Systems Institute (LSI) is a flagship interdisciplinary research institute at the University of Exeter. The ambition of the Institute is to to decode the complexity of living systems across scales, from sub-molecular to organismal, and from microbe to human. Our shared mission is to discover, understand and control the fundamental rules of life.

Launched in 2017, the LSI is a unique blend of physicists, mathematicians, engineers, biologists and biomedical scientists housed in purpose-designed research and collaboration space. We are now expanding our research programmes with new permanent Group Leader appointments. We seek pioneering researchers who, like us, are motivated by scientific discovery and embrace an ethos of excellence, integrity, and collaboration.

The posts will be based in the LSI with affiliation to the adjacent Department of Biosciences or the Department of Clinical and Biomedical Sciences.

The roles

We have openings from Senior Lecturer to full Professor for researchers leading original and exciting projects in interdisciplinary life science. If you are an innovative scientist seeking a well-resourced, dynamic and collaborative environment that will enable your next breakthrough, we would like to hear from you.

We are looking for exceptional investigators who will enhance the capabilities and profile of LSI and strengthen our cross-cutting thematic research in Mathematics of Life, Physics of Life, and Engineering Life. Candidates should have a biological or biomedical research focus but we particularly welcome applications from individuals with training in mathematics, physics, engineering, or computational science. Fields of interest include, though are not limited to: stem cells and development; chromatin dynamics; cell state transitions; biomechanics and bioengineering; microbial interactions; molecular dynamics; synthetic biology and protein design.

In addition to leading your own research team, you will work with the LSI Leadership team to shape the institute research agenda, attract strategic collaborative funding, grow the global reputation of the Institute, and nurture the next generation of researchers. You will also contribute to teaching in Biosciences or in Clinical and Biomedical Sciences.

You will be welcomed into the vibrant LSI community of some 200 PhD students, post-doctoral researchers and principal investigators from around the world working in superb laboratories with excellent facilities, and supported by excellent technical and professional services colleagues.
