It is anticipated that a hybrid working pattern can be adopted for this role, where the successful candidate can work from home and the office. However, it is expected that the role holder will be predominantly based in our office in Milton Keynes whilst learning the role and at least two days per week thereafter.

The Finance & Business Services Team provides accounting, procurement, and commercial legal services to the University, helping to make the best use of resources and fulfilling statutory responsibilities. The Division has an open and supportive ethos.

The Finance & Business Services Team is headed by the Chief Financial Officer, and organised into three sections,

  • Specialist Teams
  • Financial Services Centre
  • Business Partnering Teams

The Open University has a global budget of £550m - £600m.

The role

The Open University is recruiting for a fully qualified CIMA/ACCA Management Accountant for a fixed term of 12 months within the University’s Finance unit. The postholder will report to the Senior Management Accountant within the Financial Planning & Reporting team.

The postholder will assist in the preparation and completion of the teams’ outputs, including returns to external governing bodies and papers to the University’s senior managers and governance committees.

Skills and experience

  • Fully Qualified Accountant (CIMA/ACCA) or part qualified nearing completion of studies
  • Experience in dealing with senior management
  • Competent Excel (or similar spreadsheet) user
  • Experience with co-ordinating and analysing financial data and working with senior members of staff
  • A flexible approach, with a track record in meeting deadlines
  • Ability to interpret and link pieces of information together
  • Proven ability of taking ownership of area of responsibility
