We are seeking an International Panel Manager to join the Medical Research Council’s International Relations directorate. This exciting role is essential to MRC’s mission to improve human health, delivering a portfolio of international funding to support partnership between researchers in the UK and around the world.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to contribute significantly to the achievement of MRC's international strategic objectives. Your responsibilities will encompass various crucial activities, including the execution of MRC funding initiatives within the International Science Partnership Fund (ISPF). You will actively engage in close collaboration with international funding partners to shape and execute joint initiatives. Additionally, the position may involve managing a small team, potentially including line management responsibilities. This multifaceted role provides a platform for professional growth and meaningful contributions to advancing global research collaborations.

Main duties / key responsibilities:

  • To project lead the call process for ISPF initiatives, including the delivery of workshops, panel meetings (including overseas meetings), the review of applications, portfolio reporting, strategic papers, budgets and post award processing.
  • Contribute to the design and implementation of new tailored international programmes and handle the relationship with MRC’s overseas funding agency partners.
  • To handle relationships with MRC key partners both internal and external, some examples include UKRI, academics and international funding agency partners.
  • Own the planning and delivery of ad-hoc projects associated with the international portfolio, this may include policy or process changes.
  • To respond to enquiries from the research community and communicate MRC policies.
  • Provide financial reporting, analysis, and briefings on MRC international activities
  • Attend meetings as the MRC International representative or observer as appropriate, and report on developments.

Person requirements:

Essential:

  • Educated to A-level or equivalent
  • Experience of working in an administrative environment within a team
  • Experience of working efficiently and respectfully with internal and external collaborators.
  • Experience of working in a research funding or scientific environment
  • Strong project management skills including ability to work on multiple areas, prioritise workload effectively and deliver to agreed timelines.
  • Excellent IT skills, especially word and excel for grants monitoring and data analysis
  • Experience of grants processing and management
  • Familiarity with drafting documents and minute-taking.
  • Experience of line management or equivalent experience task handling others
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written) and ability to deal effectively with people at all levels, including upward leadership skills
