The Role

The University of the West of Scotland is seeking to appoint a Doctoral College Manager who will manage a successful team and develop and promote a vibrant research environment for 500+ doctoral students, through regular interactions with staff, partners, and students across our active community of UWS schools, research institutes, centres and groups, driving projects within and beyond the Doctoral College. The Doctoral College creates and fosters a collegiate and supportive environment for all researchers at UWS.

Alongside the provision of a high quality support service to providing an excellent service to students ensuring that academic regulations, policies and procedures are applied appropriately and consistently, the postholder will contribute to the development of the Doctoral College planning, policy development and decision making processes across all areas of work, including: advising on strategies for increasing recruitment and retention of postgraduate research students; liaising with academic partners and sponsors, liaising with relevant external bodies to advise on national requirements and advising on developments relating to PGRs.

The postholder is responsible the provision of management Information, monitoring of targets and KPIs; production and analysis of data against strategic objectives and KPIs; and compiling internal and external data returns.

The successful candidate should have the following:

  • Relevant degree, plus significant experience in a similar or related roles.
  • A proven track record of working within a university research environment or similar relevant work experience.
  • A proven track record of creating and delivering highly effective and professional services within a university environment.
  • Line Management experience.
  • Ability to build relationships with key stakeholders and external partners at all levels of seniority.
