Lecturer in Global Historical Studies

- ABOUT US -

The University of Wales Trinity Saint David (UWTSD) is an employment-focused university, dedicated to ensuring students from diverse backgrounds develop the academic knowledge and practical skills to thrive.

We placed 13th for teaching quality in The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2022 and 8th in the UK for ‘Social Inclusion’ in this league table this year.

We are now looking for a Lecturer in Global Historical Studies to join our university on a full time, permanent basis working 37 hours per week.

- THE ROLE –

We would encourage applications from early-career academics working in any area of Modern Historical studies, but would especially welcome applications from those specialising in Post-Colonial Histories or subaltern studies, historical memory, International development, and history of human rights, to complement the inter-disciplinary research and teaching interests of our existing staff and our ongoing projects.

An openness to work across conventional subject boundaries and the ability to engage a diverse range of audiences are highly desirable. As such, the post holder will be expected to contribute to our residential and distance learning programmes at Undergraduate and Postgraduate level.

The post holder will offer both academic and pastoral feedback to the highest professional standards to ensure the University provides the best possible student experience. The post holder will undertake scholarship, research, training or project work, either individually or within a team, to ensure ongoing professional development.  The post holder will also make a positive contribution to the day-to-day activities of the programme, the Institute and the University, including campus life, with further duties including, dissertation supervision, student recruitment, marketing, research seminars and workshops and staff training.

- ABOUT YOU -

To be considered as the Lecturer in Global Historical Studies you will need:

  • A PhD in a relevant discipline
  • A postgraduate qualification in a relevant discipline
  • An honours degree in a relevant discipline
  • Experience in teaching, delivery, assessment and, where appropriate supervision, at undergraduate and postgraduate level in a relevant subject area
  • Experience in the design and development of module content
  • Demonstrable ongoing commitment to scholarship, research, project work and professional improvement.
  • Some understanding and experience of applying for grants and working within academic networks and partnerships
  • Evidence of good organisational and personal management skills
  • Evidence of excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively
  • IT proficiency and experience of using e-resources including a willingness to teach by video-link, VLE, e-mail or website delivery
  • Evidence of ability to balance competing pressures of teaching, scholarship, research, administrative demands and deadlines

The following would be beneficial to your role:

  • Membership of a relevant professional body or teaching qualification
  • Experience of supervising postgraduate and research students
  • Experience of delivering civic mission activities.
