Background

We are looking for a creative, thoughtful, and collaborative colleague who would like to develop their academic and clinical career with us, and who will welcome the opportunity to be part of our Centre for Applied Psychology (CAP). It is an exciting time for CAP as we consider how to develop further a dynamic an integrated suite of programmes that will provide challenging and contemporary professional training that is forward-looking and equips our graduates with the skills needed to thrive as members of the mental health and applied psychology workforce.

The post will be based in the Centre for Applied Psychology at the University of Birmingham. The Centre for Applied Psychology is staffed by Clinical, Forensic, and Research psychologists who support a broad range of teaching and research including Professional Doctoral programmes in Clinical, Forensic, and Forensic-Clinical Psychology. We also provide an MSci Psychology and Psychological Practice, as well as a range of other accredited programmes leading to qualifications in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT).

Role Summary

The successful candidate will be expected to be flexible within their role, and while we envisage that the substantive contributions will be to our ClinPsyD, contributions to other CAP programmes and to other School programmes might also be required.

Expectations for the role include: placement sourcing and organisation, supervisor training, teaching, module organisation, marking and some limited research opportunities, including developing and delivering specific aspects of training / teaching within the ClinPsyD to include the delivery of high-quality, research-intensive, inclusive teaching in areas of specialty.

All applicants will be able to use their knowledge and skills to contribute to outstanding postgraduate teaching and learning, evidence of the ability to teach in clinical or applied psychology, and have experience of working in clinical settings. Applicants will be able to demonstrate established academic leadership and management skills appropriate to their career stage and will be expected to contribute to the management, leadership and enterprise activities of the programme and School, as appropriate.

Person Specification

Appointees will hold a Professional Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (or an equivalent qualification) and hold professional registration with the HCPC as a registered Clinical Psychologist. 

Whilst expertise in any core clinical psychology specialty and theoretical model is welcome, we especially encourage those who hold Full Accreditation with the BABCP for cognitive and behavioural therapies and / or have accreditation with the Association of Family Therapy and / or have relevant certifications in psychodynamic practice.
