The Role:

The Health and Safety Advisor role involves a wide and diverse range of activities. The position reports into the University’s Lead Health & Safety Advisors and the Head of Health & Safety Services.

To be successful in the role you will have a combination of practical and theoretical experience in Health and Safety either working as an advisor or through operational exposure. You will be a team player and a good communicator with the ability to motivate, develop and encourage the commitment of others in order to secure performance.

This will include details of educational and professional qualifications employment history, giving details where applicable of health and safety experience in practice, and advising and challenging the standards in place.

Core Competencies

  • A minimum of a National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health (NEBOSH) Certificate or equivalent 
  • Membership of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) or equivalent or working towards
  • Experience of delivering health and safety advice in a large complex organisations and across a diverse spectrum of activities 
  • Knowledge and understanding of health and safety legislation, regulations, and codes of practice 
  • Experience of health and safety auditing and improving site health and safety performance and documentation 
  • Experience of communicating effectively with key stakeholders, to influence and develop key strategies that enable health and safety objectives to move forwards. 
  • Experience of designing and delivering health and safety training 
  • Pragmatic problem-solving approach to support the needs of the University in achieving legal compliance and the protection of the individual.
  • Can demonstrate the ability to investigate problems to identify their causes, takes actions to prevent reoccurrence and considers best possible solutions to identify those which offer the wider business benefits.
