Role Overview:
Oaklands College is seeking two Corporation members. The first vacancy is for an experienced individual with curriculum and quality experience in a Further Education (FE) setting at a senior manager level. The second vacancy is for an individual with appropriate skills to contribute to our Finance and Resources Committee or Audit Committee. As a Governor, you will play a crucial role in the strategic development and oversight of the college, contributing to the success and growth of our educational institution.


About the College:
Oaklands College is a rapidly growing general Further Education College, with a proud heritage which stretches back over 100 years. The College has recently been rated ‘Good’ by Ofsted and has a significant capital development programme underway at the St Albans Campus. We are proud of our highly developed partnership working with key stakeholders and that the College is recognised as a significant regional provider with a profound impact on communities, businesses, and the overall local economy.


General Responsibilities
• Attend regular board meetings and actively contribute to discussions on matters affecting the College.
• Engage in continuous professional development to stay informed about developments in Further Education.
• If required, represent the College at external events and liaise with stakeholders, fostering positive relationships within the community.


Qualifications and Experience:
• For Curriculum and Quality Committee: Senior management experience within an FE setting with a strong understanding of trends in the FE sector, curriculum development, student engagement, teaching, learning and assessment and quality assurance.
• For Finance and Resources Committee / Audit Committee: Significant financial experience in the areas of budgeting, financial planning, and resource management.
• Commitment to the values and mission of the College.

• Strategic thinking and the ability to contribute to long-term planning.

• Integrity, objectivity, and a commitment to high standards of governance.

• Ability to operate at a strategic level, as opposed to operational.

Time Commitment:

• Governors commit to attending regular board meetings, committee meetings, and engaging in relevant training and development opportunities.

• The current meeting frequency for the relevant committee meetings is:

• Finance and Resources Committee - 4 meetings over the year

• Curriculum and Quality Committee – 6 meeting over the year

• Corporation (Full Governing Board) – 3 routine meetings over the year, plus two strategy days
