This is an exciting opportunity to join the team of the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Research Support Service Hub, and the National Specialist Centre for Public Health delivered by the University of Southampton and Partners (RSS USP), located in the Faculty of Medicine.

Who are we?

The NIHR funds, enables and delivers world-leading health and social care research that improves people's health and wellbeing. Our research helps turn discoveries into new or improved treatments, diagnostics, medical technologies and services. It provides those working in the NHS, public health, global health and social care with the evidence they need to better support patients, the public and people who need care.

The NIHR RSS is a new national research initiative providing seamless access to research support, advice, design and collaboration, from planning through to delivery for researchers working across the remit of NIHR in England. Our Hub has also been designated to provide the National RSS Specialist Centre in Public Health.

A full range of support for the development of public health research funding applications is available, from advice on very early research ideas to research design, advice on setting up studies, community partnership and involvement, and collaboration opportunities.

What will you do?

As someone who is passionate about the importance of how patients and the public can help shape the future of the health research and healthcare, you role will focus on the promotion and facilitation of public involvement in research. This will involve building links with patient and community groups, and facilitating consultation and collaborations with the public and researchers. You will support research teams to help ensure that feedback from the public helps shape their research plans, and support the writing of applications to ensure plans for PPI are embedded throughout proposed research.

The role is being advertised as full time, however part time or job-share would be possible. Please just let us know.

Why join us?

We understand that our staff are our greatest asset, and we take the care of our staff seriously. Some of the perks of working with us, include:

Hybrid Working- We’re pleased to offer a hybrid-working arrangement as we know the many benefits this can bring to our staff and us as an organisation. We strive for cohesive and collaborative teams so our expectation is you spend around 20% of your time in the office.

Workplace Wellbeing- As a university we aim to create an environment where everyone can thrive and are proactive in fostering a culture of inclusion, respect and equality of opportunity. We believe that we can only truly meet our objectives if we are reflective of society, so we are passionate about creating a working environment in which you are free to bring your whole self to work. With a generous holiday allowance as well as additional university closure days we are committed to supporting our staff and students and open to a flexible working approach.
