The role

The LEAP Digital Health Hub is an EPSRC-funded partnership that aims to catalyse innovation, research, and collaboration in digital health in the South West of England and Wales. LEAP brings together five leading regional universities and Health Data Research UK (HDR UK) plus a network of 60+ partners in industry, charities, NHS trusts and social care organisations.

The Hub is looking to appoint a ‘Researcher in Residence’ in the area of Data Science for Health. This Researcher will add value and their specialist expertise to the Research and Fellowship programmes, collaborating with Hub Fellows and Hub research consortia to undertake publishable research in digital health. Typical projects will involve working as part of a team, alongside industry and the NHS, and will be motivated by real clinical needs.

What will you be doing?

  • The postholder will form part of a small team put in place to work on various collaborative projects funded by the Hub and provide advice and expertise in data science to Hub Fellows and partners.
  • They will liaise with research teams to collaboratively design and deliver solutions to various digital health challenges using a combination of practical and professional knowledge of data science and artificial intelligence.
  • They will also participate in the peer review of Hub research and fellowship proposals, and will have the opportunity to contribute towards knowledge exchange within the Hub through participation in networking events and training activities, such as providing specialist workshops on specific algorithms for data analysis and visualisation.

You should apply if

  • You have experience of working with numerical data and performing data analysis using a programming language, such as R, Python, C++;
  • Experience with data visualisation techniques;
  • Understanding of best practices in data science and software engineering, such as version control, testing, reproducible data analysis pipelines and FAIR data;
  • Broad conceptual and practical knowledge of the state of the art in machine learning and data science;
  • Publications on relevant topics in international conferences and workshops.
