De Montfort University (DMU) are looking to appoint a Head of the Doctoral College and Researcher Development. DMU is an ambitious, globally minded and culturally rich university with a strong commitment to the public good. We strive to maintain a stimulating and inclusive environment that champions difference and celebrates success.

We are asking ourselves some fundamental but hugely important and far-reaching questions at DMU: what will be the education of the future that we want to provide? How will it be distinctive, relate to the city and the future world of work, and be inspiring and – reflecting on the ambitions of our founders – ‘elevating’? How does a degree stay relevant throughout someone’s working life?

Role

The overall purpose of this role is to work closely with the Director of Research, Business and Innovation and the Associate Pro Vice-Chancellor Research, to provide professional services leadership of the Doctoral College and the development of our research community from Early Career Researchers through to Professors.

As an inspiring leader, you will contribute to the strategic direction of the university, enhancing the university’s research by further developing its reputation and impact regionally, nationally and internationally.

In your role as the Head of the Doctoral College and Researcher Development, you will line manage a team of staff and manage budgets. You will work for the Director of Research, Business and Innovation and closely with the APVC Research, the Deans of the Faculties, Associate Deans, Research & Innovation, and the Research Services Directorate to encourage new ideas and innovation, and to support the implementation of existing initiatives.

The role can be completed on a hybrid basis.

Ideal Candidate

To be successful as Head of the Doctoral College and Researcher Development you will have achieved a higher degree; a postgraduate qualification or a PhD. You must demonstrate management experience in higher education, specifically in a large/complex organisation – including management of a cross-functional team in the delivery of faculty research support. To find out more about this role, please view the job description and person specification.

Interviews will be held on DMU’s campus on 21st June 2024.
