We are looking for an ambitious and dedicated individual to join our successful academic team on our BA (Hons) Graphic Design degree in the Institute of Education, Arts and Society at the University of Cumbria.  

This is a part-time (0.4fte) lecturer position and will primarily involve teaching across our four years of Graphic Design education provision, from the Integrated Foundation year to Level 6 students. We offer a contemporary design education with an emphasis on industry opportunities for our students. 

The BA (Hons) Graphic Design programme enjoys a rich design studio environment shared with the BA (Hons) Illustration programme. The successful candidate will be an active and engaged member of the wider learning community that supports all students to be ambitious and achieve. 

The successful applicant will be able to work as part of a team developing and delivering high quality academic provision through the implementation of teaching and learning, widening participation and other strategies in order to contribute to the provision of high quality learning and opportunities and the best possible student experience. The role will include building links and networks with partners, developing opportunities for our students and engaging in scholarly activity and knowledge transfer activities.

The role involves teaching both in studio and in classroom. We offer a number of modules that are multidisciplinary and so the applicant will be able to teach common skills across a range of art and design subjects. These skills will include digital design, problem solving, idea generation, visual communication and presentation skills. 

The successful applicant will have experience of teaching in HE and will be knowledgeable of a range of digital packages currently being used in the Graphic Design industry and be confident in being able to share those skills with our students and enable them to select the best digital tools for each project brief they embark upon. 

Confidence, commitment and currency are the qualities that we are seeking for this appointment. The interested applicants will be self-motivated, show initiative and be enthusiastic about Graphic Design for the student and their client.
