About the Role
We are looking for a Postdoctoral Research Assistant to work on the project “Next generation reactors for the multi-kg scale CO2 mineralization of desalination & industrial brines to value-added carbonates” under the supervision of Dr Gregory Chass, and Prof. Kostya Trachenko within the School of Physical and Chemical Sciences of Queen Mary University of London, UK (QMUL).
About You
Ideal candidates should have a PhD degree in the Physical Sciences (Chemistry, Physics, Engineering) or a related field and be able to work independently and sociably within a team. Expertise with neutron scattering is essential. Previous experience in other characterization techniques (THz spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, nanoimaging, Raman) is desirable. Knowledge of cementitious & carbonate materials is essential, while familiarity with crystal growth and geochemistry is highly desirable.
About the School/Department/Institute/Project
The School of Physical and Chemical Sciences consists of the Department of Physics and Astronomy and the Department of Chemistry. It is one of five schools in the Faculty of Science and Engineering. The School is an exciting and dynamic environment, home to over 530 undergraduate students, 70 postgraduate taught students, and 130 teaching and research staff. Our research is highly collaborative, working with colleagues across all three faculties and supported by partnerships with industry, NHS and other stakeholders.
Chass and Di Tommaso Labs are active research groups based in the SPCS at QMUL. The groups are also part of the QMUL Materials Research Institute, that brings together a wide range of expertise from Queen Mary based academics with interest in materials research. These groups are particularly interested in CO2 utilisation, crystal growth, cementitious and amorphous materials.
