The London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) is one of the world’s leading public health universities. Our mission is to improve health and health equity in the UK and worldwide; working in partnership to achieve excellence in public and global health research, education and translation of knowledge into policy and practice.
We are based within the Clinical Trials Unit at LSHTM, the largest school of public health in Europe. We work collaboratively with health professionals world-wide to conduct large multi-centre clinical trials aimed at improving patient outcomes in life threatening emergencies. We have an international reputation for practice changing clinical trials, including the CRASH-2 trial (20,000 patients with traumatic bleeding) which identified tranexamic acid as a lifesaving treatment for trauma victims and the WOMAN trial (20,000 women with postpartum bleeding) that showed that tranexamic acid also reduces deaths from bleeding after birth.
We are seeking to appoint a Research Fellow as a Statistician to play a key role in our current programme of clinical trials. The post entails research in medical statistics, with a particular emphasis on the statistical analysis of results from major clinical trials. A postgraduate degree in a relevant topic along with relevant experience in statistical programming, for example, STRATA or R is essential. Past experience of clinical trials and/or epidemiological research is desirable. Applicants must possess an aptitude for both applied and methodological research and good communication skills. Further particulars are included in the job description.
The post is full-time 35 hours per week, 1.0 FTE and fixed-term for 12 months with potential for extension subject to funding. The post is funded by Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and Wellcome Trust and available immediately.
The salary will be on the Academic Pathway salary scale, Grade 6 in the range £43,947-£49,908 per annum (inclusive of London Weighting). The post will be subject to the LSHTM terms and conditions of service. Annual leave entitlement is 30 working days per year, pro-rata for part-time staff. In addition to this there are discretionary “Wellbeing Days”. Membership of the Pension Scheme is available. The post is based in London.
