About The Role

The successful candidate will be committed to developing the Department of Criminology, Sociology and Social Policy’s international reputation for innovative research and impact, and building its excellent standards in teaching and student experience.

Our student-centred learning environment is centred on a staff culture prioritising accessibility to students and delivering engaging and innovative programmes of study. Alongside an undergraduate portfolio comprising each of our core subject areas as well as joint honours, we offer interdisciplinary taught post-graduate programmes in Cyber Crime and Terrorism, Social Research Methods, and Applied Criminal Justice and Criminology.

The Department hosts an array of multi-disciplinary research projects of world-leading and international quality, and a recently established Centre for Social Change. While the focus of much of our research is empirical (both qualitative and quantitative) and applied in nature, as a Department and Centre we aim across the strands of our work to combine real-world impact with a strong critical dimension and a sensitivity to current theoretical developments. We are committed to maintaining a level of research excellence commensurate with the Research Excellence Framework (REF) process.

We welcome applications from criminologists in any field, with an interest in working across the disciplines in our department. The post-holder may contribute to existing areas of strength as well as developing their own areas of interest and will be expected to attract external research funding in order to enhance the standing of the Department.

Research activities within the Department are supported by:

  • A Research Hub providing support on research funding
  • Dedicated bid-writer support for grant applications
  • Personal research and development allowances
  • Sabbatical programme

We are part of the ESRC-funded Welsh Graduate School for the Social Sciences, established to promote excellence in postgraduate training in Wales.
