The Faculty of Computing, Engineering and Media is home to a diverse range of courses taught by experienced academics in professional facilities equipped with cutting-edge technology equipping students with the skills and specialist knowledge to solve real-world problems.

Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and hands-on Senior Electronics & Embedded Systems Technician to join the technical team within the Faculty of CEM. You will provide technical support and guidance across embedded systems and electronics laboratories, working closely with academic staff and students.

You will be instrumental in supporting teaching, research and development activities—delivering practical advice, maintaining specialist equipment, and ensuring safety and efficiency in our labs. You’ll also assist with the development of bespoke software and contribute to innovation within our facilities.

Ideal Candidate

You will have:

  • A degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant subject area.
  • In-depth knowledge of embedded systems, microcontrollers, and both digital and analog electronics.
  • Strong coding experience in C, C++ and Assembly.
  • Experience with lab equipment and tools such as oscilloscopes, logic analysers and design software like OrCAD, Altium or KiCad.
  • Excellent communication, teamwork and problem-solving skills.
  • The ability to work independently, manage priorities, and maintain a calm and professional approach under pressure.

Desirable attributes include familiarity with VHDL, FPGA systems, telematics (GPS, GSM, Bluetooth), and immersive or fabrication technologies.
