Salary on appointment will be £38,249 per annum, with an annual increment up to £45,413 per annum.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Research Associate to join the School of Computing Sciences, at the University of East Anglia, to conduct research on the EPSRC funded project: “A digital twin of childbirth - Introducing healthcare technologies in obstetrics”.

The project builds on the in-house BirthView dynamic childbirth simulator that exhibits the rotational cardinal movements of childbirth and aims to transform the simulator into a person-specific version or “digital twin” using fetal MRI data from near term pregnancies.

As a Senior Research Associate your main contribution will be to develop medical image segmentation and registration algorithms to facilitate the creation of the digital twin from processed fetal MRI scans.

You should have excellent programming skills, preferably in C/C++, or another general-purpose language like C# or Java. Research experience is welcomed in at least one or more of the fields of medical image processing, computer graphics, continuum mechanics, the finite element method, machine learning, AI and Data Science. Additional skills in games engines such as Unreal Engine or Unity would be advantageous.

You should have a PhD, or postgraduate level research degree, or equivalent experience in relevant research areas including Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics or Physics. You will have the opportunity to contribute to grant applications and may be involved in the supervision of researchers and teaching of students within the School of Computing Sciences. You will also have strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a team.

The post is available from 1 August 2025 on a full-time fixed term basis for up to 12 months.
