Are you ready to help shape the future of teaching and learning at Birkbeck? Do you have experience in virtual reality, immersive learning and teaching in educational or business contexts?
Birkbeck is looking for a talented and experienced Senior Technologist to manage our brand-new OFS funded Immersive Learning Centre (ILC). You will be the technical lead for the ILC, including its facilities and services and work with the Head of the Centre to help shape its development in the future. With a salary of £51,000 to £60,018 per year, this is a full-time, permanent post with flexibility working offered.
As Senior Technologist, the role includes a broad range of operational and technical support for Birkbeck’s new Immersive Learning Centre (ILC). It will involve digital production, equipment provision, delivering practical training and the use of applications including virtual reality and immersive learning to create learning experiences for a range of subject areas.
It will also involve identifying, adapting and creating new immersive learning and teaching experiences using a variety of delivery platforms, hardware and software, potentially across all subject areas.
You'll be directly assisting staff, research students and external partners in the development of digital assets and immersive media. This may involve site visits and using digital recording technologies to capture objects, room interiors and landscapes. You'll be line managed by the Head of ILC and also work closely with the wider Digital Education team and Information Services colleagues.
To succeed as Senior Technologist, you will need digital creativity as well as methodical attention to detail, confidence in learning how to use new and emerging technologies, and the ability to communicate and instruct their use to students and staff with varying levels of digital skill.
You may already be working in a technical role supporting VR/AR/IL spaces or software development, worked in learning technologies or AV with a focus in this area or come from industry and are looking for a change in career direction.
