Associate Lecturer - Igneous Petrology

Are you passionate about Geology? Birkbeck, University of London is seeking an Associate Lecturer to join the School of Natural Sciences and teach part-time this coming Autumn 2025. 

As Associate Lecturer you would teach the module:

• Igneous Petrology - level 5 
• 3 hours of teaching each week
• Teaching Monday 6-9pm, October - December 25

Your main responsibility will be preparation, teaching, administration and assessment of the Igneous Petrology module, which is a Level 5 module offered as part of our Geology course. 

You will have knowledge of Igneous Petrology and experience of teaching in the evening and be qualified to the corresponding level of the award as required to teach (or demonstrate equivalent professional/industry level experience).

In addition to the criteria specified in the job pack, the minimum requirements for selection are listed below:

• A knowledge of Igneous Petrology at post-graduate level 
• Relevant experience in teaching mature, part-time students in the evening
• A good understanding of the needs of full and part-time adult learners and be able to relate well to their individual needs and engage their interest and enthusiasm
• A working knowledge of IT including Word, Excel, e-mail and experience of (or willingness to use) Moodle & Teams.

Salary:

Payment is based on an hourly rate depending on length of continuous service with the College (starting rate £68.13 per hour inclusive of pro-rata London Allowance and holiday pay) for contact hours worked. This hourly rate is based on the starting point of Grade 7 and is inclusive of a ‘Duties Related to Teaching Multiplier’ at 2.5, which covers preparation, teaching, administration, assessment marking and other examining duties in connection with the course.

Contract:
