The Heritage & Building Maintenance Team sits within Operations at Estates Services. The Team is responsible for the maintenance of the built fabric of the University of Oxford’s Functional Estate (comprising over 300 specialist research, teaching, and laboratory buildings, lecture halls, sports facilities, libraries and museums, administrative and ceremonial buildings). The team also has responsibility for the maintenance of the Graduate Accommodation and Residential Buildings Portfolio. 

About the Role  

The Heritage and Building Advisor is a vital role within Estates Services, supporting a team of project specialists including surveyors, architects and accessibility advisors. The post holder will be responsible for the pro-active management of heritage assets and their conservation across the Estate. This will include delivery of Conservation Management Plans, policy development, project support, site surveys, strategic planning, data management, system administration, outreach and communication. 

About You 

Essential criteria (see full list in the job description) 

  • A degree in Historic Building Conservation or an equivalent heritage, conservation or construction related discipline.
  • Eligible for a relevant professional membership (e.g. IHBC, RICS, CIOB or RIBA)
  • Able to demonstrate knowledge of the historic environment, heritage related policies and legislation.
  • Able to work effectively and collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to understand their needs and requirements in relation to project work, restrictions and procedures etc.
  • Experience of working within the historic environment and traditional methods of construction.
  • Ability to plan and prioritise your own workload
  • Excellent written communication skills, and the ability to produce high quality reports which may be read and understood by a range of non-specialist audiences.
  • Experience of using management databases, Outlook and good IT literacy.
