About the job

The University of Northampton is looking to recruit an innovative industry connected Lecturer/Senior Lecturer to help deliver an industry focused curriculum across a number of genres in Media Production. You will have experience as an industry practitioner in the areas of either broadcast television, digital media production or content creation for Multi-Platform projects. The successful applicant will teach across a range of practical and some theory modules with an emphasis on student-focused teaching and high impact research, as well as providing super-supportive personal tuition. If recruited at senior lecturer level, there will be an expectation for the post holder to undertake course leadership duties as directed.

You will be expected to help market the Creative Film, Television and Digital Media Production degree based within the University’s Creative Hub on the Waterside Campus which may include occasional Saturday and evening cover for events such as Open Days.

As an academic, you will also be expected to contribute to the research and scholarly output of the subject area and work collegiately with other researchers within the Faculty and wider University.  Research and scholarship are supported through our research centres, mentor scheme, and 25 days of leave for scholarly activity.

About you

You will have an evidencable background in the media industry and the ability to produce and deliver a high-quality teaching and learning experience across the Creative Film, Television and Digital Media Production field. A related first degree is essential and higher degree highly desirable.

Essential skills include the ability to work independently as well as collegiately within a team and you must be able to communicate professionally and effectively with learners and colleagues. The successful applicant will be able to use initiative to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines and have an adaptable, positive and proactive approach to supporting the general life of the course, school, faculty and wider University.  

You will be ICT literate, with experience of Adobe editing software, and for Senior Lecturer level will have experience in leading modules and courses in HE and/or FE settings. A track record of effective partnership working (internal and external), to develop entrepreneurial and employability opportunities in related media settings would be advantageous.

Qualifications

Essential;

  • Degree qualification or equivalent in relevant subject
  • Professional Recognition as HEA Fellowship (D2) or teaching qualification recognised by HESA, or willingness to obtain within an agreed timescale

Desirable;

  • Masters degree in relevant subject
  • Doctorate in relevant subject, completed or within 12 months of completion (Senior Lecturer) 
  • Relevant professional qualification

Faculty 

You will join an innovative and collegiate team within the School of Culture and the Creative Industries (CCI), based in the Faculty of Education, Arts, Science and Technology, with an emphasis on student-focused teaching and high impact research. The School of Culture and the Creative Industries contains a varied portfolio of traditional academic subject areas such as History and English, along with fellow creative industry courses in Acting, Music, Hair, Make-up and Prosthetics and Multi-Media and Sports Journalism.
