Part-time Course Director and Panel Tutor for the Undergraduate Certificate in International Relations 2025-2026
The University of Cambridge's Institute of Professional and Continuing Education (PACE), based at Madingley Hall, offers a vibrant and diverse array of courses for personal enrichment and academic and professional development. Courses range from non-award-bearing courses, many of which are open-access, to innovative part-time Master of Studies (MSt) degrees. Around 300 PACE panel tutors, across a variety of academic disciplines, make a vital contribution to the quality of teaching, learning and student support.
We are currently seeking applications from suitably qualified individuals with expertise in international relations and global studies to join our expert panel as a Course Director for the Undergraduate Certificate in International Relations. The Course Director will undertake a variety of allocated roles on the Undergraduate Certificate in International Relations (2025-2026) such as: the delivery of online teaching; providing students with ongoing academic support; conducting marking and providing feedback on assessments; working with guest lecturers; managing the virtual learning online platform; conducting writing workshops; and participating in team meetings. The Course Director will lead the delivery of foundational topics in each unit of the Undergraduate Certificate, including introductory lectures on Realism, Liberalism and Constructivism; the role of power in relationships among states, concepts of nationalism, war, security and alliances; as well as the history and development of international political institutions.
Candidates will be educated to at least Master's level (PhD preferred) and will have experience of teaching in a higher education setting. PACE's Undergraduate Certificate in International Relations course can be viewed here: https://www.pace.cam.ac.uk/courses/undergraduate-award-certificate-international-relations
Preferably the successful candidate will have experience of teaching diverse cohorts of undergraduate students in an established university setting and have experience of marking and providing feedback for both formative and summative assessments. A recognised higher education teaching qualification would also be beneficial. A student-centred approach and an interest in supporting adult part-time students from a broad range of educational backgrounds is essential. You must be available to engage in course preparation and set-up in September 2025, and to teach on all three units online on selected dates beginning 10 October 2025, as indicated on the PACE Certificate in International Relations 2025-2026 webpage, under the Overview tab.
