About the Role

We are seeking to appoint a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer for our Costume Design & Construction BA (Hons) course, which sits within the Music and Events Department and is part of the larger Nottingham School of Art and Design. The course benefits from an excellent reputation and recruits high caliber students with strong creative and academic abilities and is designed to ensure graduates leave us with unique combinations of multidisciplinary knowledge, transferable skills and sought after attributes that are aligned to the many creative industries of the future.

You will be passionate about teaching, possessing excellent communication skills, with the ability to deliver high quality teaching and learning to undergraduate students. You will be devising and delivering innovative teaching and assessments, seminars, workshops and tutorials.

You will be required to liaise and work collaboratively with the course team to deliver a dynamic and exciting curriculum, ensuring the quality and currency of the course and student experience. You will contribute to a range of modules across the subject area inclusive of both theory and practice, and will be able to offer the required knowledge and attributes as detailed in the attached person specification in one or more of the following areas:

  • Contemporary costume design practices, from traditional soft costuming through to mixed material usage and emerging technological approaches.
  • Theoretical knowledge and contemporary contextual understanding of employment opportunities to underpin the direction for future practice
  • Industry knowledge of the costume design sector – film, tv, dance, carnival, creature, theatrical etc
  • Sustainability practices within the sector.

You will have an excellent understanding of the subject area as well as knowledge of contextual research and current professional practice within the Costume Design field and will possess both academic and industry experience within the subject area.
