About the role:

The post is funded by a CRUK Development Fund award and will be based in the Division of Cancer at the Imperial College Hammersmith Campus (Dr Robert Kypta) and the Department of Materials at the South Kensington Campus (Professor Alexandra Porter and Dr Fang Xie). The purpose of the post is to develop, test and compare the activities of nanoparticles targeting a cell-surface protein with demonstrated roles in prostate cancer. The Research Associate will be expected to help supervise master’s and PhD students, assist with safety in the laboratories and submit publications to refereed journals and to attract external research funding.

What you would be doing:

  • To take initiative in the planning of research
  • To plan and conduct scientific work with appropriate supervision
  • To work collaboratively as part of a research team
  • To identify and develop suitable techniques for the collection and analysis of data
  • To conduct data analysis
  • To ensure the validity and reliability of data at all times
  • To maintain accurate and complete records of all findings
  • To write reports for submission to research funders and sponsors • To present findings to colleagues and at conferences
  • To submit publications to refereed journals

What we are looking for:

  • Research Associate: Hold a PhD in [subject] or a closely related discipline, or equivalent research, industrial or commercial experience
  • Research Assistant: A first / masters degree (or equivalent) in chemistry or a related discipline
  • Practical experience within a research environment and / or publication in relevant and refereed journals
  • Experience of dealing with [specific groups of people, e.g. sponsors, patients]
  • Practical experience in a broad range of techniques including nanomaterials synthesis and characterisation, drug delivery for cancer therapeutics
