The Department of Mathematics is a medium-sized department at the London School of Economics with renowned research strengths in mathematics related to the social sciences, substantial undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, and providing a number of large service courses to the School. The Department seeks to appoint a senior, experienced and highly motivated individual to lead and manage the professional services staff team and be a key interface between the Department and a wide range of academic and administrative staff across the School.
Working closely with the Head of Department, the post holder will ensure the effective management of the Department’s human, financial and physical resources and will play a key role in its strategic development. The post holder will have overall responsibility for the Department’s professional services team and will oversee the delivery of its programme portfolio.
Applicants must be educated to degree level (or equivalent), substantial management experience, preferably in higher education, and be highly computer-literate. Alongside experience of effective resource management, the successful candidate will have strong strategic planning and organisational skills and be able to lead, motivate and support a team to ensure the highest standards of service delivery. They will be a proven problem-solver, an excellent communicator, and be able to develop a wide-range of professional networks.
