The School
The School of Human and Social Sciences is a multidisciplinary school that empowers and equips students to shape a sustainable, just and healthy society. The school has recently expanded its disciplinary coverage and now delivers a portfolio of education, research and enterprise activity across psychology, criminology, education and early years, forensic science, nutritional therapy, sociology, politics and international relations, and our new development of Sport and Exercise Science.
The Role
We are seeking applications from highly motivated candidates to undertake the role of Laboratory Manager to strengthen the Forensic Science team and to work collaboratively coordinating technical staff across the School of Human and Social Sciences. The successful candidate will provide technical support for staff and students in the Criminology and Forensic Science subject area using specialist equipment relevant to the discipline. You will be expected to maintain and organise the equipment, and to support research and teaching activity that utilised specialist laboratory spaces. You will be required to maintain laboratory accreditation standards as well as Health and Safety and COSHH processes and records across the school. You will be expected to participate in the development of teaching and research activities by, for example, managing a budget, writing business cases and sourcing new equipment.
The Person
This is an exciting opportunity for suitably qualified candidates who should hold a degree in Chemistry, Biology, or another discipline relevant to the subject area of forensic science or have significant equivalent experience in a laboratory setting. You will have a worked in a laboratory setting, have previous experience with budgeting and procurement processes, be IT literate with knowledge of specialist equipment used in forensic science teaching and research. You will have experience in overseeing health and safety procedures and be confident in supporting academic colleagues and students in this area. You will have effective communication, organisation, administrative and people skills. You will be able to work as part of a team but will be highly motivated and have the ability work with minimal supervision.
