Location: College Lane Campus, Hatfield
Main duties and responsibilities
You will manage technical support operations for the Screen and Music departments, ensuring high‑quality support across Film and Television and Music and Animation. You will also oversee the operation of production facilities: studios, loan store, edit suites, sound recording facilities, lighting rigs and fieldwork support; ensure reliable service to teaching and production schedules. You will also co‑lead Health & Safety for the School, maintaining a safe working environment compliant with UK film/TV industry and university Health & Safety standards.
The postholder will manage and develop technical staff, supporting their training, performance and deployment. You will deliver technical demonstrations to students and/or training to staff and deputise for the Senior Technical Manager and/or Technical Manager in some Management Team workstreams or School-wide projects on occasion. You will also support School events, liaise with Estates and external contractors, and coordinate inspections, inductions, risk assessments and incident investigations.
Skills and experience required
You will have leadership skills and experience, including a proven track record of effective staff leadership and management of technical facilities with experience in delivering training or teaching in subject-specific practical skills to students or staff. You will have advanced proficiency of camera systems, audio, lighting, grip, post‑production workflows and media‑management and familiarity with quality and professional standards of technical support in relation to educational, commercial and enterprise projects. You will be proficient in operations management and planning, with a clear focus on quality enhancement and possess in‑depth knowledge of Health and Safety processes and the ability to support with, produce, and review activity-based Risk Assessments. You will have communication and presentation skills of a high level and strong teamworking skills.
Qualifications required
You will be educated with a minimum of a Degree or equivalent or equivalent professional experience in Film & Television Production. A NEBOSH National General Certificate or IOSH Managing Safely (or equivalent) is essential.
