University of Oxford - Nuffield Department of Clinical Neurosciences (NDCN)

Location: Oxford
Salary: £35,681 to £41,636 per annum. RESEARCH GRADE 6
Hours: Full Time
Contract Type: Fixed-Term/Contract
Placed On: 24th October 2025
Closes: 7th November 2025
Job Ref: 182901

Nuffield Department of Clinical Neurosciences (NDCN), John Radcliffe Hospital, Headington, Oxford, OX3 9DU

An exciting opportunity to join the OxCIN Plasticity Group as a postgraduate research assistant to carry out studies investigating sleep, motor learning and recovery in healthy adults and people with brain injury. We have previously demonstrated that people with brain injury, such as stroke, have disrupted sleep, and that sleep quality relates to rehabilitation outcomes and recovery. We therefore seek to explore how to improve sleep in the context of stroke rehabilitation and to better understand the relationship between sleep problems and rehabilitation outcomes.

The postholder will assist with designing a sleep education package for use in stroke rehabilitation, recruitment of participants, data collection, and analysis, as well as contributing to the general running of the lab group. The role will involve visiting participants in rehabilitation hospitals and in their homes and liaising with NHS staff.

Techniques would include clinical/behavioural assessments in people with stroke/brain injury, qualitative interviews of staff and stroke survivors, and assessment of sleep using EEG and actigraphy. Prior experience co-ordinating clinical studies involving NHS sites would be advantageous.

Please see the below 'Job Description' for further details on the responsibilities and selection criteria, as well as further information about the university and how to apply.

The post is full time for a fixed term until 31st December 2026 in the first instance.

Only applications received before 12.00 midday on Friday 7th November will be considered.

Interviews will be held as soon as possible thereafter.
