Here at Sheffield Hallam University we are looking to strengthen our team with an  inspirational academic with a passion for delivering high-quality learning experiences as well as substantial experience gained through teaching, relevant industry experience, or both.

As a Lecturer, you will join us at an exciting time and will have the opportunity to be involved in the development and delivery of our Airline and Airport Management course. And the MSc International Tourism and Aviation Management.

We are seeking to recruit an experienced Aviation/Airline and/or Airport Management professional with demonstrable contemporary knowledge, from working directly in or with relevant industries coupled with a strong academic background. You must be able to confidently teach in at least two of the following areas:

  • Service operations
  • Finance, data interpretation, revenue management and airline pricing
  • Strategic management and sustainability
  • Digital marketing and communications for the aviation industry
  • Airport and airline planning and operations.
  • Artificial intelligence and digital technologies in aviation
  • Safety, security and crisis management

We pride ourselves on the applied nature of our courses, excellent graduate outcomes and student satisfaction. We strive to provide a high quality, personalised learning experience that transforms the lives of our students.

We are looking for someone who can:

  • Deliver a broad range of student-engaging activities in the subject areas above, including lectures, seminars, tutorials, demonstrations, and other forms of undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in a range of modes including online, on-campus, synchronous or asynchronous.
  • Develop and apply innovative and appropriate teaching and assessment techniques, creating materials which generate interest, understanding and harnessing enthusiasm amongst students.
  • Carry out ongoing curriculum review and development, including teaching content and materials, and contribute to the development of teaching, learning and assessment strategies, incorporating the standards of the relevant accrediting professional bodies.

You do not need extensive experience of teaching; this is a great opportunity for an applicant with senior industry experience and a desire to inspire the next generation of tourism and hospitality professionals to embark on a career in academia.

We offer a diverse range of benefits and opportunities to pursue a rewarding and fulfilling career in a supportive environment.

You will be contractually enrolled into the Teachers’ Pension Scheme (TPS) – one of the largest and most generous defined benefit pension schemes in the country.

Find out more about the TPS.

If you are, or have been, a recent member of the Universities Superannuation Scheme (USS) directly prior to joining us, you can choose to opt out of the TPS and remain in the USS.   Please contact the Pensions team to discuss options available.

The University may be able to sponsor the employment of international applicants in this role; this will depend on a number of factors specific to the individual applicant.

We welcome applications for job-share, part-time and flexible working arrangements.
