About the Role
The responsibility of this role is to lead, manage and deliver business partnerships support to the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry (FMD). This role will support researchers in FMD to develop academic research partnerships with businesses and grow the Faculty’s commercial portfolio.
The post-holder will be based in the established Business Development Team that is part of QMUL’s Research Services Directorate. Effective communication and relationship management across multiple and varied stakeholders is a key requirement. The post-holder will work very closely with the academic staff of the Faculty as well as other Professional Services staff, particularly those who are functionally aligned with business engagement, research development and management including the Joint Research Management Office and Queen Mary Innovation Ltd. The post-holder will line-manage a team comprised of Business Development Managers.
About You
You will possess a post-graduate qualification in a relevant specialist area, with a degree or equivalent experience and a PhD in a scientific discipline being desirable. You will have significant experience in business development and engagement within a research-intensive HEI, a successful track record of handling high value commercial negotiations and a high-level understanding of research funding mechanisms, commercial research and development pricing. You will demonstrate excellent communication, interpersonal, project management, IT and time management skills, with the ability to build working relationships inside and outside the university. Familiarity with systems like WorkTribe and Salesforce and other related systems are essential. Experience of contributing to strategic planning and mentoring staff is essential.
About the School Department
The role is based in the Business Development team and is part of QMUL’s Research Services Directorate. The Business Development team comprises approximately 20 staff supporting research and knowledge partnerships with business and industry, business-led collaborations, consultancy and contracts with public sector organisations.
