About the School / Service
We are Student Services and are responsible for nurturing wellness, supporting individual needs, helping students in crisis, improving retention, and enabling positive experiences through residential life and extra-curricular activities. Working in partnership across academic schools and professional services, our teams seek to provide a network of support throughout the student journey and aim to optimise student success.
The Student Services directorate is led by the Assistant Chief Operating Officer, Health Gain & Student Experience. Our department incorporates a number of professional and support teams including Student HUB, Student Conduct, Academic Tutoring, Residential Life, Student Disability and Dyslexia, Student Life, Student Money Advice & Rights Team, Student Engagement & Retention Team and Student Wellbeing.
About the Job
Assigned to a School, you will play a key role in supporting and improving student attendance, engagement, progression, and outcomes. Working closely with Schools and Professional Services, you will use data and analytics to identify students facing challenges and develop targeted interventions. This is a student-facing role with an on-campus requirement, where you'll proactively engage with students, offering signposting, support, coaching, and referrals as needed.
Your responsibilities will include promoting attendance, engagement, and extracurricular involvement, helping students quickly adapt or reengage with university life, and understanding academic expectations. You'll provide mentoring, advice, and coach students back to successful study.
- Experience of student support within a higher education setting, providing advice and guidance to students.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with experience working collaboratively across teams.
- Understanding of the barriers that prevent individuals from seeking support, with the ability to develop strategies to overcome them.
- Experience in delivering outreach initiatives, such as calling campaigns, nudges, or surveys, to support students at risk of disengagement.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and administrative tasks, including accurate record-keeping of student interactions and interventions.
About You
We are looking for a proactive and student-focused professional with experience in higher education who is passionate about improving student engagement, retention, and success. You will have strong interpersonal and communication skills, enabling you to build positive relationships with students and colleagues across academic and professional service teams.
This is a dynamic, student-facing role that requires you to provide guidance, coaching, and signposting to help students navigate university life and achieve their academic goals.
The ideal candidate will thrive in a collaborative environment, managing multiple priorities while maintaining accurate records of student interactions. Your ability to engage, motivate, and support students will make you an invaluable part of our high-performing team dedicated to student success.
