Maternity-cover from February 2026 for 1 year

We are looking for an experienced, adaptable, highly motivated and outcome-focused person to work with our technical support team at the Royal College of Art. Your teams deliver a wide variety of making and digital making activities across campuses. These are areas where students are sketch making, assembling, experimenting and developing physical 3D concepts. A key part of this role is the growth of bench based making areas that allow students to explore and develop work within the experimental stages of their research.  This is a full time role to cover maternity leave for up to a year from February 2026.

The day job as a Making Technical Coordinator:

  • Lead a selection of technical teams, allocating technical duties and support tasks, delegating fairly and providing focus and motivation.
  • Coordinate the growth of multiple technical spaces by establishing clear team objectives and providing the appropriate support and guidance where necessary.
  • Manage the buying and setting up of new equipment and services.
  • Liaise with other Technical Coordinators and represent your area through attendance of college-wide meetings and forums.
  • Assist students and staff in problem solving and finding technical solutions.
  • Organise and oversee maintenance of specialist equipment and manage the allocated budgets as required.
  • Support College Teaching, Learning, Research activity that may require technical input from your team.  

What you will need to have:

  • The ability to coordinate effectively both services and teams of highly skilled technical staff across a broad range of specialist technical areas.
  • Experience of planning and delivering technical content for the virtual learning environment.
  • Excellent organisational, time management and planning skills with the ability to prioritise as appropriate.
  • Proven ability to manage projects to time and budget.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal at all levels.
  • Ability to chair meetings and make/give formal presentations, communicating effectively to individuals & groups at all levels
  • Ability to deal with difficult situations and confidential matters and to resolve problems when they arise.
