Would you like to work with cutting-edge preclinical models?
Would you like to make a difference to brain cancer – a cancer of unmet need?
Can you provide technical input to research projects and do you have extensive laboratory and preclinical animal experience which includes skills in cancer?
Glioma is a brain cancer of unmet need, with little progress made in the past 30 years, and despite current ‘gold standard’ therapy, overall survival remains dismal (12-15 months). Neurosurgery remove much of the tumour bulk but due to the infiltrative nature of glioma, cancer cells remain. These cells can resist adjuvant chemoradiotherapy treatment, causing tumours to inevitably regrow. We are interested in translational approaches to overcome the cancer biology of this aggressive and highly dynamic process in a disease-relevant model in real time. This involves developing cutting edge in vitro and in vivo models that will enable us to identify new targets and optimise existing treatments.
The University of Leeds is one of the top 75 universities in the world. We have a truly global community, with more than 39,000 students from 170 different countries and over 9,000 staff of 100 different nationalities. Established in 1904, we have a strong tradition of academic excellence, reflected in first-class student education, along with world-leading research that has a real impact around the globe.
What we offer in return
