About us

UCL is London’s Global University and ranked 9th in the world (QS World University Rankings 2026). The Institutional Strategy is underpinned by six key enablers, all of which require good data management and reporting (operational and strategic). Student Operations is responsible for the student record - its management and quality - as well as the principal functions supporting the student lifecycle (e.g. exams, timetabling, curriculum information). The division is also responsible for student statutory reporting to external stakeholders (e.g. HESA, OfS, GMC).

About the role

This post is part of the Student Data Quality team within the Student Operations directorate.

As Education and Student Data Librarian, you will need to work closely with colleagues in Student and Registry Services (SRS) and across faculties and other Professional Services, especially in the Information Services Division (ISD), to respond to requests and identify issues. You will be part of a team of colleagues devoted to improving student and education data quality for all use cases. You will work closely with the data analysts who will assist in collating, analysing, and reporting on data to propose solutions for effective decision making. You will work with the Head of Student Data Quality to develop the team into a coherent function and will bring specialist skills to the role in the areas of:

  • Data lifecycle management (DLM)
  • Data profiling and modelling

The objective of this new role is to provide much needed data lifecycle management skills and stakeholder support for SRS to deliver excellent quality operational reporting and data analysis on a range of education and student data issues (e.g. student enrolment forecasting, space utilisation, timetabling and curriculum operations). In addition, this role will increase the maturity of the team by providing core aspects of data librarianship such as data and metadata management plans (creation, storage, access, preservation).

About you

You are an experienced data professional with a strong background in data lifecycle management, governance, and quality. You have hands-on expertise in data profiling using tools like Microsoft Purview or Collibra, and are skilled in technologies such as SQL, Power BI, Data Lake, and Python. Your strengths lie in deriving insights from complex data, applying machine learning techniques, managing and integrating data from multiple data domains, and effectively collaborating with diverse audiences to derive KPIs, SLAs, design reports and present results. You combine strategic thinking with attention to detail, ensuring high data standards through profiling, stewardship, and reporting. With excellent planning, organisational, and decision-making
