The Learning Lab, located within the Student Learning and Personal Development (SLPD) division at LSE, provides one-to-one appointments, group workshops, and learning resources aimed at helping students develop the skills they need to get the most from their studies and reach their academic goals.

The Learning Lab is now looking to recruit a learning developer who will support students in the development of academic and study-related skills with a specific (but not exclusive) focus and expertise on using generative AI tools to support and enhance student learning. Reflecting the culture of the SLPD division, we are looking for someone who is enthusiastic and flexible and prepared to adapt to a changing environment. The post holder will work with undergraduate and master’s students across all discipline areas and be expected to engage in the following tasks:

  • design and deliver a range of learning development activities, such as workshops within the Learning Lab curriculum and asynchronous and synchronous materials
  • liaise with academic departments to identify, design and deliver innovative sessions using generative AI that can help students understand how to use these tools in their disciplinary learning
  • and contribute to the success of LSE’s Education and Student Experience strategy, both centrally and at departmental level.

Candidates should have:

  • experience of using generative AI tools effectively across academic contexts and disciplines (e.g. in areas that might include writing, research, calculation, coding, quantitative and/or qualitative data analysis) with demonstrated understanding of their capabilities, limitations, and ethical implications
  • experience of teaching university students to evaluate and use generative AI tools critically, responsibly and ethically, and of helping them to make informed decisions about when, where, why, and how to use these tools in their academic work, with a focus on key skills (e.g. academic reading, writing, exam preparation)
  • experience of designing and delivering asynchronous and synchronous practical workshops, one-to-one support, and resources that help students apply generative AI tools to specific academic tasks (e.g. literature reviews, data analysis, proposing/designing research) in higher education
  • experience of supporting students at different stages of AI literacy and across varied disciplines - from initial exploration to sophisticated, context-appropriate integration into their learning practices
  • sound understanding of contemporary challenges in higher education including AI literacy, authentic assessment and evolving academic practice.

Please note that hours of work will need to be flexible and may include some evenings and weekends.

We offer an occupational pension scheme, generous annual leave, hybrid working, and excellent training and development opportunities.
