About the role:

The post is funded by the Wellcome Trust as part of the Climate Change Resilient Equitable Healthy Cities in Africa (CLARITY-Africa) Programme to assess heat exposure and associated health impacts in outdoor workers in Ghana and Rwanda. 

The post evaluates climate-related equitable and sustainable adaptation measures. To mitigate the health impacts of climate change on vulnerable populations in Sub-Saharan African cities. 

What you would be doing: 

You will: 

  • Plan and undertake environmental and/or physiological measurement campaigns in outdoor workers in Accra and Kigali to assess heat exposure and biological and cognitive responses.
  • Develop and administer questionnaires to collect exposure, outcome and contextual information and conduct appropriate statistical analyses.
  • Manage, curate, clean, analyse and present high-dimensional data relating to environmental health.
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of knowledge co-creation workshops in Ghana and Accra. 

What we are looking for

You should have: 

  • A PhD in Environmental Sciences, Environmental Health, Environmental Epidemiology, Biomedical Sciences or a closely related discipline, or equivalent research, industrial or commercial experience.
  • Experience of developing own research projects related to environmental exposures and health.
  • Practical experience of conducting research in occupational settings.
  • Experience of dealing and effectively communicating with study participants, stakeholders and sponsors.

This is a full-time post (35 hours per week). 

This role is for a fixed-term contract for 24 months.
