Short summary

The FP&A Assistant Manager plays an important role in delivering clear, high-quality financial insight across the Francis Crick Institute. You will lead financial planning and analysis for a portfolio of research groups, working closely with Group Leaders and the Post-Award Grants team to support effective decision-making and maximise value for money. 

This role is central to strengthening finance business partnering between finance and science, improving the quality of insight provided to stakeholders and supporting the delivery of the Crick’s research strategy. As part of a small FP&A team, you’ll build strong relationships, enhance reporting and data quality, and contribute to continuous improvement across the function.

Key Responsibilities 

These include but are not limited to: 

  • Leading budgeting, forecasting and long-term financial planning for a portfolio of research groups in partnership with Group Leaders.
  • Supporting Crick Leaders and the FP&A Manager to deliver efficiency plans and improve value for money.
  • Building strong, trusted relationships with stakeholders and clearly communicating the financial implications of decisions.
  • Producing accurate, insightful management information to support effective planning and decision-making.
  • Driving improvements in financial reporting processes, systems and data quality.
  • Identifying and resolving complex issues and contributing to continuous improvement across the FP&A team.

About you

You will have:  

  • A recognised accountancy qualification (CCAB or equivalent), or be a finalist, with strong FP&A or finance partnering experience in a complex organisation.*
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder-influencing skills, with high emotional intelligence and confidence working with senior leaders.*
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to translate financial data into clear, meaningful insight for non-finance audiences.
  • A proactive, organised approach with the ability to manage multiple priorities and drive improvement.
  • A strong alignment with the Crick’s mission and enthusiasm for supporting world-class research.
  • A proven track record of delivering change and improving finance processes.

The Francis Crick Institute is a biomedical discovery institute dedicated to understanding the fundamental biology underlying health and disease. Its work is helping to understand why disease develops and to translate discoveries into new ways to prevent, diagnose and treat illnesses such as cancer, heart disease, stroke, infections, and neurodegenerative diseases.
