A research systems officer is required to provide user support for systems within the Research, Knowledge Exchange and Commercialisation directorate (RKEC) at the university. This is a key position to maintain systems’ operational integrity and enhance the services that can be delivered by it. A trusted champion for our research systems, the post holder is expected to be the first point of call for all users, providing high quality support, ensuring that relevant systems are well maintained and configured, engaging with peers to ensure up-to-date knowledge of sector development and contributing to system integration and service improvement in a complex research environment. The post holder will report to the research systems project manager and will work across teams within ICT, Library, Human Resource, Marketing & Communication and Finance services.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities of the post

Users support

Provide support to all levels of user for Worktribe (the University’s nominated research information system) and any additional systems managed by the RKECS directorate. Contribute to the delivery of system user training, system documentation and effective communication of this to users.

Systems support

Maintain and enhance system configuration and integration, ensuring platforms reflect current university policies, structure and approval workflows. Monitor the day-to-day running of the nominated systems, ensuring they function efficiently and effectively to support the University’s research, knowledge exchange and administrative processes.

Work with the Research Systems Project Manager to ensure the timely application of upgrades to the systems. Create and maintain technical documentation, knowledge base articles, and configuration records to support consistency and team resilience.

Contribute to and engage with the external system user community to help drive product development and system improvements.

Data reporting

Produce and validate data extracts and reports from supported systems, using available reporting tools (e.g. in-system searches, SQL, Excel/Power BI or other tools as appropriate).
