About the Role
We are looking for an academic lead with expertise in delivering multidisciplinary research in Computational Biomedical Imaging (or related fields), who will bring together expertise from either engineering, physics, computer science or medicine, with the life sciences. We welcome applicants with experience across diverse areas of biomedical imaging. You will integrate imaging research expertise across medical specialties, organs and applications with the other thematic foci for PHURI in our multidisciplinary institute. The successful candidate will shape and advance the research agenda in this area, developing a clear strategic vision and collaborating closely with academic leaders within PHURI and across Queen Mary.
This role provides you with exceptional scope to define the research strategy in this area and lead its delivery, working closely with the PHURI Director. There is also the opportunity for a clinical honorary appointment with the relevant specialty.
About You
The Professor will make significant contributions to the intellectual life and research of the Institute. You will lead by example, providing direction to enable success, as well as contributing as a senior academic to the wider achievements of the Institute and Institution.
You will have proven experience in driving multi-disciplinary work, demonstrable leadership and outstanding track record of research. Your research may encompass a broad range of imaging technologies and modalities, including optical and molecular imaging, spatial omics, and quantitative imaging with AI-based analysis, applied to the investigation of diverse organs or anatomical structures. Most importantly, your research should combine strong medical relevance with translatable and tangible patient benefits.
About the Institute
The Precision Healthcare University Research Institute (PHURI) aims to improve health through data-driven medicine. PHURI’s multidisciplinary teams will address interconnected research themes including Omics Science; Imaging, and Therapeutic Innovation - transcending the existing boundaries between disciplines.
PHURI builds on the close partnerships between Queen Mary University of London and Barts NHS Trust to ensure that our research is focused on where it is most needed. Using our linked health and molecular patient data we will drive the development and targeted prescription of treatments based on patients’ needs.
PHURI utilises an environment where the hospital and university interact with industry, clinicians, patient groups and translational partners to accelerate the development, evaluation and translation of new technologies and interventions.
