Background

City St George’s library service provides support to students, staff and the wider University community across four library locations, augmented by online resources and user support delivered both online and at our library help desks. The Library Service has been awarded Customer Service Excellence accreditation.

We are seeking to recruit for two Library Assistant posts in our User Services team at the Clerkenwell campus. The roles are based at the main Northampton Square Library and the Law Library.

Responsibilities

Library Assistant roles in our User Services team have a range of responsibilities with up to 50% of time spend on tasks such as handling circulation transactions and enquiries at the library help desk, helping maintain the library study environment and supporting our online enquiry service.  Regular tasks will also include using the library management system to oversee circulation procedures  and other online systems to deliver user support and library service tasks, including user registration and stock management. At the Law Library, the role will also involve supporting our Academic and Content & Discovery Services teams in processing library stock acquisitions and maintaining the law library collections, e.g. through the Reading Lists Online portal and updating printed and loose-leaf material. You will also participate in Operational and Project groups to support delivery of the library operational plan.

Person Specification

The successful candidates will offer excellent customer service and will possess good verbal and written communication skills. You will be familiar with using libraries and library resources and able to utilize information technology to a high standard, including web technologies and social media. You will be capable of working effectively in a team as well as individually and able to organize and prioritise your own workload. The ability to deliver work with a high degree of accuracy and meet deadlines is an important element in this role.
