This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced academic leader to shape the strategic direction of research and knowledge exchange within the School. Working closely with the Deputy Dean and Head of School, you will lead an ambitious portfolio that enhances research excellence, impact, reputation and sustainability. The role combines strategic leadership with operational delivery and includes responsibility for research performance, income generation and external engagement.

About the role

As Associate Head of School (Research & Knowledge Exchange), you will lead the School’s research and knowledge exchange strategy, delivering against agreed objectives, income targets and performance measures. You will strengthen the School’s contribution to the Research Excellence Framework (REF) and Knowledge Exchange Framework (KEF), increase external research income and develop impactful regional, national and international partnerships.

You will promote an inclusive and collaborative research culture, encouraging interdisciplinary working and the responsible use of digital and AI-enabled approaches. You will also support staff development and ensure research informs teaching and enhances the student experience.

About you

You will be an established academic with a strong track record in research and/or knowledge exchange, including success in securing funding, producing high-quality outputs and delivering demonstrable impact. You will have experience of academic leadership and the ability to inspire colleagues while delivering strategic priorities.

You will possess a strong understanding of the UK research and knowledge exchange landscape, including REF and KEF, and be able to translate strategy into measurable outcomes. Experience of building partnerships, leading interdisciplinary initiatives and engaging with digital innovation and AI will be highly valued.
