Research Technician

About the Role
We are seeking a Research Technician to support research investigating osteoarthritis and knee trauma. The post holder will coordinate and contribute to the collection, processing and management of patient samples and associated clinical data and perform laboratory experiments (cellular and molecular biology).

The post-holder will also be responsible for data storage, curation and reporting. The role will contribute to the establishment of a well-characterised patient cohort for multi-omics profiling and will support laboratory-based research within the ReGen group and the Barts Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) Osteoarthritis Subtheme.

About You
The postholder will have a degree and track record in a relevant scientific discipline, be responsible for collecting, processing, storing and managing a range of biological samples, including blood, cartilage, synovial membrane and synovial fluid, ensuring samples are handled in accordance with study protocols.

They will undertake laboratory techniques including cell culture, nucleic acid extraction and molecular biology assays, maintain accurate research records and databases, and contribute to the analysis and management of research data.

Working closely with researchers and clinical colleagues, the postholder will support the delivery of collaborative research projects, participate in scientific meetings and training activities, and help maintain high standards of research governance, data protection, health and safety, and laboratory practice.

About the School/Department/Institute/Project
The postholder will work in a multidisciplinary team and interact with clinical scientists, clinical practitioners, laboratory scientists and administrators. The Blizard Institute was established in 2003 and is one of six Institutes within the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, QMUL. The Institute comprises approximately 360 staff based in five academic Centres and one Public Engagement Centre and supports a combined total of c700 postgraduate research and taught students. The Institute aims to deliver excellence in all aspects of research, teaching and clinical service.
