Assistant Professor in Anatomy (Education)

Salary: Full time starting salary is normally in the range £47,389 to £56,535, with potential progression once in post to £63,606

Academic Development Programme - new Assistant Professors will undertake a 5-year development programme, at the end of which they are expected to be promoted to Associate Professor. The programme consists of a variety of development opportunities and the time to reflect and develop.

Assistant Professor posts provide an exciting opportunity to join the well-established Academic Development Programme within the Academic Career Framework at the University of Birmingham, which is ranked 68^th in the world. The successful postholder(s) will be able to contribute to both academic scholarship and anatomy provision for a wide variety of undergraduate and postgraduate students in a top university with a QS World University Subject ranking for Anatomy and Physiology of 29^th. The University of Birmingham has invested heavily in the new Birmingham Centre for Anatomy, Surgical and Clinical Skills (BCASCS), due to open in early 2027, which will allow the successful candidate(s) to contribute to an innovative, state-of-the-art Centre which combines the best of modern, technology enhanced education with the gold standard of human donor anatomy learning.

Applications are invited from medical, dental or anatomy graduates with good clinical or higher education teaching experience and a PhD or equivalent degree, who can contribute strongly to the establishment of BCASCS. The successful candidate(s) will be involved in teaching topographical, functional and clinical anatomy, neuroanatomy, embryology and histology in a variety of learning environments, providing both teaching expertise and leadership. They will also have responsibilities in varied assessments across our programmes, which include medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, nursing, physician associate, physiotherapy and biomedical sciences. Additionally, they will be expected to develop scholarship and citizenship activities which contribute to the success of the University.

More specifically, successful candidates will be expected to take a substantial role in furthering the aims and outcomes of BCASCS in line with University and College strategy. This may include a range of development activities depending on personal skills and experience, for example, clinical imaging in healthcare education, external postgraduate surgical and clinical skills training courses, pedagogical scholarship, technology enhanced education, public engagement and outreach, and/or human tissue governance.
