Since the development of the Nottingham-Ningbo campus in 2004, the Centre for English Language Education (CELE) has aimed to promote high quality EAP teaching in its structure and support of academic programmes delivered in China.  With over 100 academic staff, the CELE operation at UNNC is now one of the largest of its kind in the world and is currently supporting over 6000 students on its Preliminary Year, Pre-Sessional and Academic Literacy Development Centre programmes.

The Preliminary Year Programme is offered to students in their first year of study at UNNC and represents 120 academic credits. The programme is currently a 50-50 split between modules focusing on specific academic subjects and modules focusing on the development of English Language skills.
