Summer Schools and Activities Manager

Your role

Alongside the delivery of our undergraduate programmes we will deliver a series of engineering ‘summer schools’ throughout the year. These summer schools will include:

  • Exchange Summer Schools (for undergraduate students of the three founding partner institutions),
  • Widening Participation Summer Schools (free events for pre-university from non-traditional backgrounds)
  • Commercial Summer Schools (for international and UK pre-university students seeking a taste of university life).

As part of our Student Recruitment and Widening Participation strategy we will deliver a series of in-reach (on-campus) and outreach (off-campus) events.

This role will be responsible for the in-reach events which will include:

  • Open Days,
  • Curriculum Enrichment Days
  • Community Challenge Events

Key responsibilities

For our Summer Schools and in-reach events you will:

  • Lead the overall strategy for all of our events
  • Develop an appropriate marketing strategy for our in-reach and commercial events
  • Work with the Academic Leads to develop an exciting and engaging programme which are appropriate for students from a range of ages and backgrounds
  • Work with the Head of IT to develop appropriate technology solutions for bookings
  • Develop a stimulating social programme to complement the academic programme content
  • Liaise with relevant colleagues at the Founding Partners to ensure the smooth running of exchange summer schools
  • Develop strong connections with local community groups and charities with similar outlooks as appropriate
  • Develop processes and policies to ensure the safe running of all events, with particular focus on safeguarding for those under 18
  • Deliver innovative Open Days which showcase the vision of the future campus
  • Recruit temporary staff to support events as required

You will also ensure that allocated budgets for all activities are managed appropriately.

About you

Qualifications

  • Degree or equivalent experience

Experience

  • Experience of organising and delivering innovative events
  • Experience of managing multiple projects delivering on time and to cost
  • Experience of managing budgets

Skills and Personal Qualities

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present in an engaging and effective manner
  • Excellent relationship building and stakeholder management skills
  • Strong IT skills
  • Drive for evidence based continuous improvement and feedback
  • Evidence of strong creative skills and approach

Desirable

  • Experience of organising summer schools and/or open days
  • Experience of managing events with children and young adults

Please note this role is likely to meet the definition of regulated activity and will therefore require an enhanced DBS check.

Hours of work: 
Nominal weekly hours 35
We actively encourage agile/ flexible working in line with the requirements of all our roles. There will be some weekend and evening work required although you will be able to take time off in lieu.

Contract: Fixed term for 2 years
