Prof. Xuerui Mao’s research group at Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT) is seeking a postdoctoral researcher in one of the following two areas:

  • Icing on a solid surface. Potential topics include 1) the molecular dynamics simulation of icing and de-icing, 2) high-fidelity simulations of the wetting/icing process using an in-house code based on the phase field method, 3) experimental measurements of icing and anti-icing, and 4) thermal management for de-icing strategies, etc.
  • Data processing in fluid flow. Potential topics include 1) the extraction of travelling waves, 2) Image-based techniques on modal decomposition, optimization of design parameters and identification of flow features, 3) data assimilation and reconstruction of flow fields, and 4) uncertainty quantification in modal decompositions, etc.

The annual salary will be from 250K to 500K RMB depending on the experience and track record. Candidates from top 100 universities will be eligible to compete for an extra salary of 200K RMB per annum in a national scheme. These positions last for two years and towards the end, outstanding candidates will be considered for faculty positions.

Introduction to the research group

The research group maintains extensive collaborations with overseas universities, e.g. Imperial College London, University of Nottingham, Oxford University, KTH, Johns Hopkins University and there are regular mutual exchanges of researchers for each of the topic above. The group has been funded by research councils and major industries in aerospace engineering and energy in the UK, EU and China. More information of the group can be found at https://mao-lab.com.

BIT is located in the centre of Beijing, and despite its small size, it is in the first groups of national higher education projects “211” and “985”, among a few other giant universities. For international candidates, the university and the group will offer assistance in accommodation and settle down, and it is totally comfortable to speak English in the campus.

Requirements:

  • PhD in math, mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering or equivalent.
  • Publication record in top journals.
  • Capacity to communicate fluently in English.
  • Experiences on programming, analytical modelling and high-performance-computing will be appreciated.
