The IDRIC Centre Finance Manager will provide financial expertise to manage the budgets and financial reporting for the Centre. Playing a key role within the Centre, the post holder will bring extensive experience and expertise on implementing the financial framework and transactions within multi-partner, multi-project activity ensuring that the project is being run in accordance with the terms and conditions and in line with financial due diligence. The post holder will preferably have relevant experience gained from working within UKRI funded projects and have experience of grant funded reporting requirements either within a higher education or industry context. This is a fixed term position to March 2024.

The post holder will work within the Finance Directorate and will work closely with the Industrial Decarbonisation Research and Innovation Centre (IDRIC), The post holder will report to the Research Grants Finance Manager  and will work  closely with the wider IDRIC team based at Heriot-Watt University and also across all IDRIC partner organisations (please see for further information about IDRIC).

Some of the Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Policy and Compliance: Ensure that all funds received from the funder are managed according to the required Terms and Conditions.
  • Prepare detailed analysis and reconciliation of financial information to ensure all eligible expenditure is included and reviewed for compliance with the funder regulations.
  • Manage the finances of the Centre and ensure all budgets are monitored, adjusted and reported to the relevant stakeholders including the funding body, Centre Manager and Director, Centre management and governance groups.

Education, Qualifications & Experience:

  • Educated to first degree level or equivalent or equivalent practical experience in the workplace.
  • Proven relevant experience in financial management of budgets in excess of £10m.
  • Experience of reporting to research funders.
  • Experience of working closely with stakeholders across all levels of the organisation.
  • Ability to research, analyse and present complex information effectively with good attention to detail.


  • Degree in Business/Finance related subject.
  • Experience of working in Higher Education.
  • A track record of applied financial management of grant research projects within a complex setting.
