Responsibilities:

The Academic Support Officer (ASO) is A-Z responsible for each of the class/all the students in that class, taught by DAD via MST.

  1. Design teaching material and deliver either across a range of modules or within a subject area.
  2. To produce duly approved and signed off detailed Scheme of work, aimed at academic review and monitored by the HOS
  3. Duly approved and internally verified Assignment brief, fit for purpose and in line with awarding body regulations. This must be circulated to enrolled students on the Day 1 of attendance. The Assessment team will circulate this from the central team, so that ASO needs to make sure that the Assignment briefs are circulated on a timely basis
  4. Each ASO should also make sure at the beginning of the contract with RCL they “know your student” project, that is background of student, their English levels and any other learning issues identified at the ARWA and enrolment stage. “KYS” is a paramount action that each ASO should undertake.
  5. Enter attendance records during each lesson directly entered in Unit-e by the academics. The attendance team shall start the monitoring from the start of the lesson and shall contact students if needed to deal with any non-attendance issues. The attendance team shall also send regular reports to the management team on the whereabout of each scheduled lesson sEnter the assessment record directly in unit-e or maintain appropriate records, so that ASO is fully aware of the assessment data about each of the student.
  6. Each module ASO is wholly responsible for student submission and must make sure 90% of students submit on time and make sure this is managed in an efficient manner.
  7. Each module ASO is also responsible for achievement of each student and the KPI set up in line with RCL overall KPI of for every 100-student enrolled, RCL needs to certificate 80, that is 80% certification rate regardless of the duration of the course.
  8. At the end of each module completion, the respective ASO needs to prepare a module evaluation report MER, with in an agreed timescale reviewed by the Head of School and reported to AD/Principal. This report should be compiled by the Quality Office but prepared by the respective ASO.

Selection Criteria:

A: Qualifications

  • A good honours degree, or equivalent, in a relevant subject with an appropriate subject specialism (essential).
  • A postgraduate qualification or relevant professional experience or PhD in an appropriate or closely related discipline (desirable)
  • A recognised teaching qualification (or willingness to enrol on PGCHE) (desirable)
  • Fellowship (or Senior/Principal Fellowship) of the Higher Education Academy (desirable)

B: Teaching and Course Management experience

  • Course management experience, namely running an RQF Pearson’s HND. (essential)
  • Evidence of ability to meet the teaching needs at course and degree level (essential)
  • Relevant work experience within the field (essential)
