The MRC Epidemiology Unit, a department within the School of Clinical Medicine at the University of Cambridge, wishes to appoint a Head of Research Operations. The mission of the Unit is to understand the genetic, developmental and environmental determinants of obesity, diabetes and related metabolic disorders and translate this into preventive action. The department comprises an MRC Unit and other linked programmes, supported by MRC Unit funding and multiple grants from other funders. The Unit operates a matrix management system whereby the scientific programmes are underpinned by research support teams for data collection, measurement, provision of core scientific infrastructure and management of legacy study resources. The post-holder leads a senior team to deliver these functions and ensure that they work collectively to support the work of the scientific programmes and the Unit as a whole.
The successful candidate will have significant experience of leading large, multifunctional teams and the ability to bridge effectively between scientific and operational groups. They will have broad knowledge of the conduct of research studies and trials, laboratory operations, data management, computational functions and research governance. This is an excellent opportunity to make a significant contribution to a dynamic Unit at the forefront of international research into diabetes, obesity and related metabolic disorders.
Once an offer of employment has been accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a basic disclosure (criminal records check) check and a security check.
