DEPARTMENT OF APPLIED MATHEMATICS 

Professor (Ref. 22050513) 

The Department offers Bachelor of Science Scheme in Data Science, and makes a significant contribution to most of other academic programmes of the University by providing service teaching.  It also offers master programmes.  Members of the Department have expertise in applied optimization and optimal control, engineering computation, operational research, management science, applied statistics, FinTech, data science and machine learning.  Please visit the website at http://www.polyu.edu.hk/ama for more information about the Department. 

The Department has established a Joint Laboratory of Applied Mathematics with the Academy of Mathematics and Systems Science of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.  The appointee is expected to be actively involved in the activities of the Laboratory. 

We are seeking to appoint a Professor in Applied Optimization and Operations Research / Data Science and Analytics 

Duties 

The appointee will be required to: 

1. provide leadership in all aspects of academic activities, including teaching, research and services; 
2. conduct research as the main duty and actively pursue external research grants; 
3. provide quality teaching at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level(s) and supervise student projects and theses; 
4. contribute to the development of enhancement of teaching and learning, and departmental service; and 
5. carry out academic and administrative duties as required. 

Qualifications 

Applicants should have: 

1. a doctoral degree in Operations Research / Computational Mathematics / Applied Mathematics or a closely related field with experience in Data Science and Analytics; 
2. demonstrated promise of a high level of creativity in research and an excellent portfolio of teaching in respective areas; 
3. substantial experience in academic programme planning, management and curriculum development; 
4. excellent records of publications in internationally recognized journals and successful bidding of external competitive research grants; and 
5. extensive local and international connections in research and professional capacities.
